Multi-Tasking

In today's world, where just about everything is more convenient and accessible due to advances in technology. Things can be done fast, more efficient and with much ease.

The question is how multi-tasking affect the learners by means of technology?

Actually multi-tasking has a great impact on learners because multi-tasking itself doesn’t work at all. Many students believe that they can do two or more things simultaneously at once but the reality is that shifting tasks results to poor performance. Multi-tasking affects learning as performance degrades and time is lost with every task that is multitasked.

Since the emergence of hand held devices and social networking sites like FaceBook teachers have noticed a difference in academic performance, critical thinking skills and how information is processed.“Multitasking prevents people from gaining a deep understanding of the information they are trying to learn.” Kids have a difficult time sticking with a ‘difficult to understand’ topic and are more apt to allow themselves to be distracted, to tune out and switch over to Facebook or using their cell phone rather than working harder at understanding a difficult subject or problem. In the long run, the shifting of attention by multitasking affects grades.

To prevent this we should practice the value of focusing on one task at time, working hard to understand a difficult subject in order to optimize results and learning.
